Pengelolaan Sampah Berbasis Lingkungan Menuju Kota Bersih dan Sehat (Studi di Kemantren Ngampilan Kota Yogyakarta)

Abstract

The issue of waste has become a complex environmental problem, especially in urban areas, including Kemantren Ngampilan, Yogyakarta City. The daily increase in waste volume is not matched by an optimal waste management system, resulting in various negative impacts on public hygiene and health. This community service activity aims to raise awareness and encourage community participation in environmentally-based waste management to create a clean and healthy Yogyakarta City. The methods used in this activity included socialization, training on household waste sorting, composting, and the establishment of waste banks at the neighborhood association level. The results of this activity showed an 85% increase in public knowledge about waste management, as well as an increase in waste sorting and recycling practices in the community. In addition, the formation of waste bank activist groups has reduced the volume of waste disposed of at temporary storage sites by 30% in three months. This activity proves that an environmentally-based waste management approach with active community participation is effective in supporting the realization of a clean, healthy, and sustainable city.
